Southgate: “France have a stronger team than individual”

The England national coach, Gareth Southgate, assessed France as “a stronger team” than their individual quality, after answering several questions about Kylian Mbappé ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final against the Frenchmen.

“Every player on the field has his battle and also has to support his teammates. Kyle Walker is ready. We are talking about a position on the field, but we play against France, who are a fantastic team and we will be careful with all their players and the quality of the entire team”, he stated at a press conference.

Southgate did not want to give special prominence to a Mbappé who arrives as the top scorer in Qatar 2022 with five goals and resolved the pass to the quarterfinals of France, although he acknowledged a nice duel with Harry Kane. “Tomorrow we will have two world-class forwards facing each other. It will be more than that, but everyone will be focused on Mbappé and Kane. We have other good attackers in our team and it will be a great game for the fans,” he said.

In addition, the technician Three lions He referred to the English defeats in the semifinals of the last World Cup or in the final of the last Euro Cup. “We had losses that hurt but that prepare you for nights like tomorrow, where you have to be in your best version. We are ready to fight with France for the spot in the semifinals,” she explained.

On the other hand, Southgate referred to the level of youngsters he has on his squad. “We have many very good young players, who are establishing themselves, and Jude Bellingham is doing it this World Cup,” he explained, before assessing the poor League of Nations that put England’s options in the World Cup in doubt.
