Political and academic stability distinguish the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics

Due to the responsibility of its teachers, its work with young people and its connection with society, the Faculty of veterinary medicine and zootechnics it is synonymous with political and academic stability, asserted María Lilia Cedillo Ramírez, rector of BUAP, after hearing the Second Activity Report of the director of the faculty, Fernando Utrera Quintana.

Before the members of the Council of Academic Unity, The Rector of BUAP recognized the commitment of student forms with vocation, professionalism and humanism that meet the demands of society. This is appreciated in the services of the Veterinary Hospital for Small Species, in the city of Puebla, and recently in Tecamachalco, due to the frequent search for citizenship, which acts as a reference for many veterinary clinics and hospitals in Puebla, which makes the educational institution proud.

For this reason, he expressed his support so that students and teachers have the better conditions, That their research be supported with respect to medicine and veterinary science that contributes to the welfare and protection of the animal kingdom.

In his report, Fernando Utrera Quintana indicated that the academic plant It is made up of 68 professors: 12 full-time, 18 associates, 24 class hours, two part-time, two academic technicians, three specialized technicians, three have permission to improve, and four have administrative functions. Of this total, nine are members of the Register of Researchers of the VIEP, 18 are members of the Program for the Professional Development of Teachers (Prodep) and six are within the National System of Researchers of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt).

In this context, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics offers the bachelors in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics and in Wildlife, with an enrollment of 1,604 and 31 students, respectively. as well as the master’s degree in Sustainable Animal Production and the Specialty in Internal Medicine and Surgery in Dogs and Cats, whose curriculum will be updated.

Therefore, there are five academic bodies: two consolidated and three in consolidation. In the last year, the degree rate increased by 37.37 percent. Seven indexed and six refereed articles were produced, 12 book chapters, 20 congress reports, five research projects and a national network was formed.

He also presented the work in the zootechnical post which has 670 heads of cattle distributed in modules of dairy cattle -with a daily production of 1,500 liters- and meat, sheep, goats for the production of goat cheese and cajeta, pigs, rabbits, hives with genetic improvements and of equines. In addition, quality breeding stock is sold.

In the last year, the Veterinary Hospital for Small Species in the city of Puebla provided 2 thousand 706 services, between consultations, vaccinations, X-rays and hospitalizations; while its equivalent in Tecamachalco, 71.

Finally, Utrera Quintana reported that in the results of the exam EGEL Ceneval 76 percent of their students obtained satisfactory scores.
