As every year for a decade, the daily Guardian published its TOP 100 with the best soccer players of the year. And yes, as the headline indicates, Lionel Messi took the votes.

After his masterful performance in the World Cup with Argentina, and after having great months with PSG, La Albicelesta’s 10 beat Kylian Mbappé and Karim Benzema.

The jury was made up of 206 characters related to the world of football. Former players such as Juninho Pernambucano and Maicon, coaches such as Fatih Terim and Avram Grant and international journalists such as Alex Pareja participated.

Lionel imposed himself authoritatively. 76% of voters (156 out of 206) chose it as number 1 on their lists. Messi is the great dominator of this exercise. And it is that never, in the decade that they have been presenting his list, has he left the TOP 3 and it is the sixth time that he has finished in the pole position.

And Cristiano Ronaldo? For the first time he finished outside of the best located. It fell, in fact, to 51st place.
