Harry Maguire and his companions? You are right. This Thursday, the coach Gareth Southgate formally published the list of the England national team for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

harry maguireAlthough he has not been playing consistently for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, he was listed as one of the defensive benchmarks.

Jadon Sancho, as the headline says, was left out. His bet to sign for Manchester United did not work out (at least for now). And, now, he will have to follow the World Cup on TV.

Other significant absences? Fikayo Tomori, James Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen, Tammy Abraham, and Ivan Toney.

Reece James and Ben Chilwell both missed due to injury.

THE OFFICIAL SCHEDULE OF ENGLAND FOR QATAR 2022

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Coady (Everton), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Kyle Walker ( Manchester City) and Ben White (Arsenal).

Undefeated data. England haven’t won a World Cup since 1966 (they were local). Their best performance since then was Russia 2018 with Gareth Southgate at the helm (they made it to the semi-finals and finished fourth in the tournament). More than 50 years waiting for the Cup to ‘come home’.

Did you know…? Harry Maguire has only played 423 minutes this season with Manchester United. Despite this, because of how he has performed at an international level, the coaching staff decided to put him in the final call.
