Issue Preventive Travel Notice for Mexicans who go to Qatar

The federal Ministry of Health issued a Preventive Travel Notice for Mexicans who will travel to the World Cup in Qatarnext November 20, before the pandemic of COVID-19, monkeypox, influenza, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)as well as dengue, acute diarrheal diseases and rabies in animals.

Risk level 2

The risk, highlighted the federal agency, is in Level 2-Lowsince the possibility of becoming ill from this event is medium, and there are specific or non-pharmacological measures against these diseases.

Likewise, he listed a series of recommendations for Mexicans who intend to travel to Qatar:

Before travelling

  • Make sure you have your complete vaccination schedule (including vaccination schedule against COVID-19 and influenza)
  • If you have any symptoms, avoid national or international travel and go to a local health unit for care
  • Register in the Registration System for Mexicans Abroad and consult the Traveler’s Guide of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the link:

During the trip

  • perform hand hygiene frequently (use soap and water for at least 20 seconds; you can also use 70% gel alcohol solutions)
  • Use the inside of your elbow when coughing or sneezing
  • Wear a face mask covering the nose and mouth, especially in closed and poorly ventilated spaces
  • Avoid contact with people ill or showing symptoms
  • Avoid contact with animals, especially wild animals, stray dogs and camels
  • Consume bottled water or water that has been boiled or disinfected, consume hot drinks, pasteurized products
  • Avoid close contact with people who have skin or genital lesions
  • To practice safe and secure sex
  • Avoid eating raw, fresh, or undercooked foods
  • Avoid eating at street or street food stalls
  • Seek immediate medical attention at if you develop symptoms
  • Drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated
  • Prevent insect bites (mosquitoes, ticks, fleas), covering exposed skin with long sleeves, pants, and hats, use of repellent, sleeping in air-conditioned rooms with mosquito nets

After the trip

  • Whether traveled to Qatar and back to Mexico If there is any sign or symptom of illness, request immediate medical attention, referring to the travel history

Symptoms: influenza, Middle East respiratory syndrome and COVID-19

  • Fever, cough, and headache. May be accompanied by body aches, sore throat, chills, runny nose
  • In severe cases: shortness of breath, rapid breathing, and chest pain

Symptoms: monkey pox

  • Headache
  • Fever (greater than or equal to 38°C)
  • Rash or lesions on the skin or mucosa
  • growth or lymph node pain

According to the federal agency, the sporting event in Qatar, which will take place from November 20 to December 18, in the cities of Doha, Lusail, Rayyan, Al Khor and Al Wahkrathe presence of at least 40 thousand Mexican fans is estimated.
