IMSS Oaxaca Strengthens Family Medicine Units in the Coastal Region

- The works consist of dignifying services and the image of medical units that impact timely, dignified and quality care for beneficiaries.
With the vision and leadership of the general director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), teacher Zoé Robledo, in the sense of transforming and improving services to the population, work is carried out to dignify the services and image of the Medicine Units Familiar (UMF) that impact timely, dignified and quality care for beneficiaries in the region of the Coast of Oaxaca.
The head of the IMSS Representation in the state, Dr. Julio Mercado Castruita, reported that at UMF No. 32, in Puerto Escondido, more than 2 million pesos (mdp) were invested in facade paint, interior paint, change of floors, doors, ceiling lights, luminaires, glasliner coating on walls, waterproofing of slabs, tile placement, replacement of electrical and plumbing installations and replacement of sanitary furniture.
Likewise, he explained that at UMF No. 33, in San Pedro Pochutla, more than 2 million pesos were also invested in facade paint, interior paint, reinforced concrete pavement in the parking area, change of floors, doors, ceiling lights, lighting, Glasliner coating on office walls, as well as replacement of electrical, hydraulic and sanitary installations, as well as outdoor lighting.
For his part, he explained that at UMF No. 26, in Pinotepa Nacional, an investment of more than 2 million pesos was also made for interior and exterior painting, change of floors, doors, ceiling lights, luminaires, glasliner coatings on walls, replacement of electrical installations, plumbing, sanitary furniture, fittings and outdoor concrete floors.
Mercado Castruita expressed that this is part of the work that the IMSS in Oaxaca carries out on the coast; however, work is also being done on the infrastructure of the remaining 22 FMUs, with the improvement of ceilings, soffits, walls, floors, installations, doors and windows by carrying out conservation works with an investment of 33.2 million pesos.
In the same way, a strong investment was also made for the renovation of medical equipment, such as steam sterilizers, chairs for stomatology and dental services, red cars, refrigerators for vaccines, furniture, among others.
The head of the IMSS in the entity announced that, with the objective of strengthening the installed capacity and improving the opportunity and quality in the provision of services, there is the possibility of the conversion of the General Hospital of Subzone (HGSZ) No. 41, from 26 to 60 beds as a General Hospital of Huatulco.
Finally, he highlighted another important achievement of the IMSS in Oaxaca, since three UMFs on the Coast: UMF No. 33, in Pochutla; No. 32, in Puerto Escondido; and No. 26, in Pinotepa Nacional, obtained in 2022 the certification as: “Unidad Amiga del Niño y la Niña”.
