Step.- The El Paso Police (EPPD) have arrested a white man accused of harassing and pointing a gun at migrants.

The investigation continues and the identity of the suspect, who is 27 years old, has not yet been released.

On December 31, 2022, at 10:34 pm, a 911 call was made reporting that a man was harassing migrants in the vicinity of Sacred Heart Church.

Moments later, the same caller claimed the subject had a weapon. Police officers searched the area and were unable to locate the suspect.

Later, at 12:37 am on January 1, 2023, the same caller reported that the suspect was driving near the Greyhound station on Santa Fe Street. A police unit in the area, detected the vehicle and conducted a traffic control.

Officers stopped the suspect and asked him to get out of the vehicle, but he fled. Due to a mechanical problem, the police unit was disabled and lost sight of the man.

The following day, EPPD elements located the vehicle and investigators identified the driver.

Investigators have been meeting with several people, many of whom are migrants, who were in the area when the incident occurred.

Once the man has been formally charged, an updated statement will include his name and charges.

Because investigators are still meeting with potential witnesses, the description of the vehicle and the man’s photograph cannot be released.
