The novel is not over. Giovanni Reina it didn’t take long for the silence to be broken after the coach of the United States national team, Gregg Berhalterventilate an indiscipline in which he was referring precisely to the Borussia Dortmund player.

Berhalter assured that the 19-year-old player did not behave well on and off the pitch. and even implied that they were very close to making the decision to send him a flight back home due to the attitude with his teammates and the coaching staff.

Given this, Reyna released a message on her Instagram account in which she regretted that the situation came to lightsince it considers that all those things that happen within a team should be kept private.

The Reyna-Berhalter break

In the same message that the Dortmund attacker posted through his Instagram account, Reyna reveals what ended up causing his frustration and what led him to get carried away by his emotions during the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

“Just before the World Cup, Coach Berhalter told me that my role in the tournament would be very limited. I was devastated. I am someone who plays with pride and passion. Soccer is my life, and I believe in my abilities. I was hoping and desperately wanted to contribute to the game of a talented group as we tried to make a statement at the World Cup.”

I am also a very emotional person, and I fully recognize that I let my emotions get the best of me and affect my training. and behavior for a few days after learning about my limited role. I apologized to my teammates and coach for this, and they told me I was forgiven. Afterwards, I got rid of my disappointment and gave everything I had on and off the field.

I am disappointed that there is continued coverage of this matter (as well as some heavily fictionalized versions of the events) and extremely surprised that any of the US men’s team would contribute to it. Coach Berhalter has always said that any problems that arise with the team will stay “at home” so we can focus on team unity and progress. I love my team, I love representing my country, and I am concentrating right now just on improving and growing as a soccer player and as a person. I hope that from now on everyone involved in American soccer will focus only on what is best for the men’s team so that they can enjoy great success at the World Cup in 2026,” added Reyna.

Reyna barely had minutes in the contest. Against England and the Netherlands were the only two games in which he saw minutes, both coming off the bench.
