Marcelo Ebrard, Foreign Minister of Mexico, announced the sending of ten elements of the GN to accompany the thousands of Mexicans who will be in Qatar for the World Cup.
As of November 15, they will install the Mexico-Qatar Center at the World Cup headquarters, to receive the countrymen who attend the event that begins that month.
And the fans who make the trip will be accompanied by Arturo Medina Mayoral, chief commissioner of the GN, with ten elements that will go without jurisdiction or uniformalthough as staff of support for for Central Mexico.
Ebrard, Secretary of Foreign Relations, explained the importance of the presence of national guards “like a bridge” between Mexicans and the Qatari authorities in whatever is offered.
“The activities that the National Guard is going to carry out are to accompany the Qatari police, to link with our fans and to deter avoid any type of conflict. We as the National Guard cannot act as a police force, nor wear the uniform, it is for accompaniment, for support to fellow nationals”, explained Arturo Medina Mayoral.
In the presentation were Karen Díaz, the first female referee from Mexico to whistle matches in a FIFA World Cup; and Yon de Luisa, president of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).
