the australian pilot Daniel Ricciardo stop running for the team McLaren of Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season, the team announced in a statement.

According to the Woking-based team, the resolution to end Ricciardo’s contract was by mutual agreement and that in theory it ended until the end of 2023.

For a few weeks, after the earthquake caused by the announcement of the withdrawal of sebastian vettel, that brought a domino effect with Fernando Alonso that surprised when leaving Alpine to join Aston Martin, rumors began that Ricciardo would not return in 2023 with his current team, since Oscar Piastri was also said to have chosen to leave the French for having a pre-agreement with the CEO of McLaren, Zack Brown.

Everything seems to indicate that the also Australian Piastri will be a McLaren driver by 2023.

Brown himself had said since May that ‘Honey Badger’, as Daniel Ricciardo is known, had not fulfilled the expectations of him and did not rule out finding a suitable exit for both, since it was contemplated in the contract that the third year could be disabled.

Ricciardo has suffered to compete against his teammate lando norrisand despite giving McLaren its first win in almost nine years, at Monza in 2021, he has only been able to score points in 17 of 35 races with the team.

Ricciardo is currently twelfth in the Drivers’ Championship with 19 points, while Norris is seventh on 76.

Ricciardo, 33, arrived in Formula 1 in 2011 and before McLaren he raced for Renault, Red Bull, Toro Rosso and HRT F1 Team. In 223 Grand Prix starts he has won 8 times.

Rumors in the paddock now point to Ricciardo potentially continuing his F1 career at Haas or Alpine.
