Chris Hemsworth doesn’t want to get as beefy as he did in Thor: Love & Thunder provided he plays Thor next time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since he took on the role of the god of thunder, Hemsworth has routinely transformed his body to bring the Asgardian to life. In Thor: Love and Thunder he reached new heights when it comes to extra pounds. After Thor shed the weight gained in Avengers: Endgame, Thor’s fourth solo movie was a true display of Hemsworth’s dedication to getting as ripped as possible for the MCU role.
Hemsworth Got Bigger Than Ever To Play Thor. This was evident throughout the filming process, as behind-the-scenes photos showed how beefy he was, biceps included. Thor: Love and Thunder was not deprived of showing his godly physique, coming to show Hemsworth naked from behind. The whole process emphasized the star’s commitment to the role and the physique that the 39-year-old actor requires. Now it seems that maintaining the new levels of fitness in Thor: Love and Thunder — or even surpassing them — isn’t something Hemsworth wants to do for Thor’s next appearance in the MCU.
As part of premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder on Disney +Marvel Studios has published a behind-the-scenes documentary for the film, which includes an overview of the development of the project and interviews with many of the key figures involved. As El Directo has shared, it includes a section in which Hemsworth talks about how he got beefy for the project. However, the actor has now admitted that he doesn’t want to get so beefy when Marvel calls him back to dress up.
“Every time I’ve played the character and put on the muscle and the size, and then lost it to something else and played another character, there’s muscle memory, and I used to say it got easier every time. This was particularly difficult. I think because the target weight we set for ourselves was way above what it had been before. We spent 12 months at home, training and manipulating the body and trying to say, “Okay, now we can swim more or do more martial arts.” It was a really fun exploration, but I don’t know if I want to be that big again. But it was like… It was… Yeah, it was just exhausting. I don’t know, maybe I’m getting old, but things started to hurt more.”
Just because Hemsworth doesn’t want to get as beefy as Thor doesn’t mean Thor is going to be normal-sized in his next MCU appearance. The actor specifically talks about how he doesn’t want to take on the challenge of trying to somehow surpass his physical form or even become that big again. Instead, he points to Hemsworth wants to reduce Thor’s musculature a bit, possibly closer to how he looked in Phase 2 or Phase 3. Additionally, Hemsworth has already started hinting at Thor’s return to the MCU, though Marvel Studios has yet to confirm which Phase 5 or Phase 6 project he’ll be seen in.
It’s certainly understandable that Hemsworth doesn’t want to get this big when Thor returns to the MCU. He went from playing the larger than life hero to working on various other projects that don’t require you to get close to that physical form. training and expectations superhero movie actors they are no joke; for example, Hugh Jackman spoke on several occasions of the difficulty of maintaining his Wolverine form as he got older. With Hemsworth about to enter his forties, the easier it is for him to get the necessary look for Thor could help prolong his future in the MCU after Thor: Love and Thunder.
